Shaping a resilient coastal community
UrbanFold together with Bass Coast Council prepared the San Remo Urban Design Framework to shape the town centre’s growth and public realm. The project focused on balancing population growth responding to a changing demographic and the need for resilient infrastructure while preserving the town’s coastal character. Through extensive community engagement the framework identifies opportunities to enhance open spaces public gathering areas and civic infrastructure.
We adopted a place-based approach – designing streets parks and waterfront interfaces that encourage interaction recreation and tourism while respecting environmental constraints. Coastal management considerations are embedded in the design to ensure resilience against erosion flooding and climate change. The Framework also prioritises sustainable development and high-quality urban design enhancing local amenity and fostering social cohesion.
The resulting vision for San Remo provides a strategy for a vibrant inclusive and sustainable coastal town.
