Transforming a former quarry into a vibrant community

UrbanFold is leading urban design efforts to prepare a Development Plan and proposed Planning Scheme Amendment for a 170 hectare former quarry in Melbourne’s middle ring suburbs. The site presents a unique opportunity to transform an industrial landscape into a new sustainable community. The Plan aims to deliver a mix of housing types open spaces and community infrastructure while connecting seamlessly to the Dandenong Valley Parklands.

We have established a vision and design principles to guide development and ensure a flexible performance-based framework. This approach encourages innovative design promotes high-quality public spaces and supports housing diversity. Streets parks and communal areas are designed to enhance connectivity safety and social interaction creating a place where residents feel connected to both the environment and each other.

By combining urban renewal with landscape rehabilitation and community-focused design the project ensures that Wantirna evolves into a sustainable connected and highly liveable urban precinct.
